Cleveland Clinic

After reading the cases in regards to Cleveland Clinic, I did some follow up research to see what the Cleveland Clinic would be doing in the future as of recently with all of the innovation within technology.

The article talked a lot about the focus of "Patients First" and how that the hospital was doing alot of changes and improvements based on the Patients. The article doesn't necessarily talk about the patients from outside the hospital perspective but Cleveland Clinic has been working to improve that experience aspect as well.

Explains how the Cleveland Clinic has recently teamed up with major Insurance product companies such as Humana and Blue Cross Shield to improve the experience of "Patient First" outside of the hospital as well. Working with these insurance product companies allows the hospital to provide improvements with health plans that are more affordable for the public. Overall, this is a win-win situation for the hospital, gaining more patients, and providing major insurance companies with the opportunity to work with major corporations such as the Cleveland Clinic

  1. This was a really interesting read thanks for finding this! A couple things really stood out to me with respects to Cleveland Clinic entering the insurance business. Insurance has rarely been seen as an industry that is patient first but seeing the innovative solutions that Cleveland Clinic is coming up with, I am convinced that we can make a shift to that kind of mindset. The way that they are focusing on providing as much information to the patient in order to execute quality care is something that is lost in other big insurance companies and if Cleveland Clinic can become successful in this venture, it may force the others to follow suit.

Although healthcare will always be a complex system, it is encouraging to see this company taking steps to become the "Amazon experience of getting healthcare". Having companies like this step up to the challenge of giving patients quality care through sharing information and technological solutions is exactly what we need and this will be a really important venture to keep an eye on.

  2. Hello Ken,

Your article on the Cleveland Clinic teaming up with insurance product companies was awesome to see. It makes sense to have a clinics and insurance companies come together to create better patient care. With the teaming up, everyone wins in the end. Insurance companies gain more customers (patients), the Cleveland clinic gets the opportunity to help more people because costs are lowered, and lastly the patient wins because they are taken more care of from by their doctors and insurance companies.

  3. Cool article. Thanks for posting. I agree with Nathan on the potential for synergy being creating with such a teaming-up. This was another article I found that sheds some more light on such an effort:

In theory, they mention the benefits that can be gained but then go on to say that there has been such a mistrust between providers and insurance companies that might stand in the way of such synergy.
