I am very interested in learning about how the healthcare system of other countries are similar as well as different to the system in the US. There is a lot of variance from one country's healthcare to another's and I think learning about these can help us figure out our situation here. Seeing what works and what doesn't in other countries may offer some insight into what we are doing wrong and how to fix it. Granted the strategies used in other countries may not be a fit due to other factors such as cultural differences, economic differences, etc. but knowing about them will help us configure our system so it works best for everyone.
Along with learning about the different systems, I would focus on the different technologies that they use and how it is different from the US. I can research the different regulations and how they deal with foreign patients to see what the opportunities of having healthcare be a global market.
I can let you borrow the T.R. Reid book, if you like, as a starting place for learning about some countries. You can decide which ones you want to investigate, and explore data that is available from these countries, or a comparison of these countries. It's probably not "cultural" but it certainly has moral implications as we discussed in class. Who is covered and what do they pay to get covered may reveal some interesting differences with the U.S.
